Boatmanship is a variety skill class in which campers get to experience canoeing, sailing, and fishing. One activity is experienced each day and then a mostly democratic vote is held the last day to see which one campers want to repeat.

Canoeing is the activity of paddling a canoe for the purpose of recreation, sport, or transportation. It usually refers exclusively to using a paddle to propel a canoe with only human muscle power by using single-bladed paddles where the paddler is sitting on a raised seat.

Sailing is the skillful art of controlling the motion of a sailboat across a body of water. Sailing vessels are propelled by the force of the wind on sails. Sailing is an activity pursued for the joy of being on the water and pursuing the mastery of the skills needed to maneuver a sailboat in varying wind conditions.

Fishing is the activity of hunting for fish by using a rod and reel. Fishing is an ancient and worldwide practice with various techniques and traditions and it has been transformed by modern technological developments. In addition to providing food through harvesting fish, modern fishing is both a recreational and professional sport.
